A Moment to Decide

The taking of a life should never be an easy decision

As I drew my weapon

It’s what I knew I had to do

Instinct mixed with Training

The time I feared had drawn down on me

As I looked down the sight

On that dark rainy night

The lights went out

I stood alone

As my finger trembled to the trigger

Reality broke through

God, Satan, and a dozen angels

Swarmed in an instant

The rain froze in place

A tunnel sucked me in

My heart pounded

With a boom that kept time

With each dragging click of my watch

Nervousness wreaked around me

My breath would not be taken

I screamed into a void

As he drew near

Pleads of mercy

That our lives wouldn’t end that night

In a single shot of decision

I pray no one has to make
