Without her I have ceased to be

My body yearns for a smile that’s real

The lifting warmth of a gentle touch

A whispered laugh, so suttle meant only for me

I want to see into her soul,

Through the gatekeepers that once danced like fireflies above soft waters.

Remove the fog and tar pushing me under

And give me back my reason to be

And where is my child inside?

I call – only silence returns to me

I once moved with the day,

Danced in the sun,

Splashed in the refreshing streams

Now I rarely breathe,

Listless and pointless, I won’t even struggle

Hidden away, replaced by the deceiver inside

A cameo of joy, faith and hope,

But inside hollow and silent

Where is the purpose,

The reason to be?

Not here tonight,

Not for who is truly

me

For without her,

I have ceased to be.

  1. Steve I love this and it makes me sad…. I’m sorry for your struggles and loss. I have one thought about this and I could be way wrong but you start off in first person then go into third person. Just wondering if you kept it all in third person? Just a thought and I’m no critic so I could be Way off. Love you Joanne
